Welcome to Pocket After Dark! For the launch of this special site for lovers of things that go bump in the night (in more ways than one), and to celebrate the release of my brand-new urban fantasy, Bring on the Night, I'm giving away some very cool swag.
See, in the WVMP RADIO series (of which Bring on the Night is the third, after Wicked Game and Bad to the Bone), the heroine, Ciara Griffin, is a former con artist turned marketing manager.
(Which some people--NOT ME, of course--say is not a dramatic career shift.)
Anyway, in Wicked Game, she discovers that the DJs at the radio station she's interning at are all vampires. Rather than freak out and run away (OK, technically, after she freaks out, runs away, then realizes she has to stay if she wants to redeem herself and, y'know, pay the rent), she decides to make the most of it.
So she starts a big new marketing campaign to save the station from going under. Instead of hiding the DJs' vampiric nature, she brings them out into the public eye, telling the world that they're vampires. It's all very wink-wink-nudge-nudge because of course, vampires don't exist, right?
But the public goes crazy for it, because, as you may have noticed, people love themselves some vampirs. The "WVMP Lifeblood of Rock 'n' Roll" campaign is a huge success, due to Ciara's marketing savvy and some very talented logo design.
They even have a Cafe Press store.
Today you can be part of the action, too! I'm giving away up to $25 (before shipping) worth of WVMP swag--T-shirts, mugs, buttons, whatever you like.
To enter, just leave a comment here on the blog (first you must register as a Pocket After Dark member, but that's part of the fun). Or answer this question:
In the WVMP RADIO universe, vampires are stuck in time, psychologically and culturally, in the era they were turned. So they still speak the slang and wear the fashions of their original age. Which makes them weird conversationalists but perfect DJs!
So if you could choose only one musical era to play, which would it be? Swing from the 20s? Rock 'n' roll from the fifties? Woodstock-era folk and psychedelic? Grunge/indie from the 90s? Or today's eclectic blend?
U.S. addresses only, please. Deadline: Friday, August 6, 11:59pm eastern time. Note: this is an author-sponsored contest. EDITED TO ADD; This drawing is now closed, and kidsue99 is the winner!
Thanks for stopping by Pocket After Dark's grand opening!
iokijo, 2 years ago | FlagThis is a hard question. There is so much good music from each era. My high school years where in the 80's so those stand out alot, but I think I would have to go with the 60's.. late 60's. A lot of good rock there as well. I'd still cheat if I could and say current because you could catch the others on the radio.. lol
Thanks for a great series and a great giveaway..
fingers crossed as well as the toes.. I want that logo on a T-shirt.. : )
cassanrose, 2 years ago | FlagI'd pick 90's hands down. Not just for the grunge which IS NOT dead (in my mind anyway) but also for all the 90's music bass booty music Like the all star DJs, Quad City DJs, Tag Team boyz and etc added to Hole, Nirvana, Pearl Jam I'd be in heaven. I love the 90's

skyla11377, 2 years ago | FlagThat is a tought choice. All those musical era's were great in their own right and I find I like a little bit from one and a little bit from another. But in my heart I guess I am an 80's kinda girl. Although I love, love, love music from the 90's and today the 80's always bring back fond memories so If I was a Vampire stuck in a time "mold" it would have to be the 80's fer sure....lo

JenniferJ, 2 years ago | FlagSeems like one of my favorite musical time periods is pretty popular!! I'm an 80's girl at heart. Bon Jovi, Vixen, Great White, Poison, Debbie Gibson (yes, I loved her, lol), Martyka, New Edition, Metallica,
Anthrax, King Diamond, Europe, Bananarama , The Bangles... everything from hair bands, to metal, to pop... I'd play it all :-)
